The Osprey is one of the world's best known and admired birds of prey.
It can be found nearly worldwide, feeding almost exclusively on live
fish which it snatches from the water after dramatic plunges. Osprey
populations were threatened in the 1950s and 60s as pesticide contamination
reduced egg viability. Since the early 1970s, when populations had
decreased by about 50%, conservation efforts have resulted in regained
breeding strength and numbers. Read more about these birds on the
About Ospreys page.
